WEB PHONE

BENEFITS
Everything a desk phone does, without the desk phone
The web phone registers as your extension on the Othos PBX, so calls reach it exactly as they would a desk phone. These are the features your team will use every day.
Sign in with a link
No passwords to set or reset. Enter your work email and click the link we send. It expires after 15 minutes and works once.
Transfer your way
Transfer now to send the caller straight through, or ask first to speak to your colleague before you hand the call over.
Add a call or conference
Put a caller on hold and dial a second call, then switch between them or merge everyone into a conference.
See who’s free
The directory shows every extension as available, on a call or offline, so you know who can take a transfer before you try.
Live call quality
MOS score, latency, jitter and packet loss, measured every few seconds during the call. When a call sounds bad, you can see why.
Your headset, your choice
Pick the microphone and speaker for calls, and a separate speaker for the ringtone, so you hear it ring with your headset off.
USE CASES
Who uses the web phone most?
Anyone who spends the working day at a computer — which, in most offices, is most of the team.
Staff working from home take calls on the office line from their laptop, without a desk phone at home or a personal number handed out to clients.
People on the phone all day can dial from the directory, transfer with a click and see who’s free without leaving the screen they’re working on.
Where staff aren’t allowed to install software, the web phone still works. It runs in the browser, so there’s nothing to install.
Sign in on whichever computer you’re working at. Your line is tied to your work email, not to a machine — just sign out when you leave.
Give someone an extension for a project without buying a handset. When they leave, we revoke their access and the web phone stops working for them.

Which browsers and computers does it work on?
It runs in Google Chrome on Windows, Mac and Linux. On Windows and Mac you can also install it as an app, so it opens in its own window with its own icon in your taskbar or dock.
Does it ring if I close the tab?
No. The web phone rings while its tab or app window is open. Closing or reloading it disconnects the line until it reconnects, and reloading during a call ends the call. Turn on desktop notifications to see incoming calls while the tab is in the background, and use the Othos mobile app if you need to be reachable away from your computer.
How is it different from the Othos desktop app?
They’re separate products. The desktop app is software you install on Windows or Mac. The web phone runs in Chrome, so it also works on Linux and on computers where you can’t install software — and you can still install it as an app if you prefer its own window.
Do I need a password to sign in?
No. Enter the work email assigned to your extension and we’ll email you a sign-in link. It expires after 15 minutes and works once. Your browser then stays signed in until you sign out or your access is revoked.
Do I need a headset?
Your computer’s built-in microphone and speakers will work, but a headset gives callers much clearer audio. You can choose which microphone and speaker to use for calls, and a separate speaker for the ringtone.
